PSALMS first started reaching young people through local sports clubs. Sport is still an important part of what we do because many of the young people most disengaged with church (especially boys) enjoy active pursuits and spend their Sundays playing football or rugby.
Now as well as working with sports clubs, and setting up several of our own, we also work with other Youth Clubs in the area, to make sure we are building relationships with young people wherever they gather.
This Basketball Club was set up by PSALMS and meets on Thursday’s at Nailsworth Primary School during term time - but is open to any young person to come along:
3:30-4:30pm for Year 5’s
4:30-5:30pm for Year 6+
Around 20 children and young people come along and learn drills, play games and take part in competitions and there have been a few matches too! At the end of each session, everyone nominates another person to win the ‘Star Bar’ which is rewarded to the player who has shown the most effort and determination and team work during the session.
This football club run by PSALMS Minister Andy Harding meets on Wednesday 5-6pm at Stratford Park astro-turf, with matches, tournament and coaching opportunities. Any young person over 15 years old can come along.
PSALMS Ministers work with a number of secular youth clubs around the area as a way of getting to know the young people and build relationships in the community.
