Part of a growing team...
PSALMS volunteers make our work happen. All our clubs and activities are facilitated with the help of wonderful people who give up their time to help in all sorts of ways. Being a PSALMS volunteer gives you the chance to get up close with children and young people, have a laugh, build community and perhaps share your passion for sport, music, drama or craft. And if that sounds a bit scary, we need plenty of help with "behind the scenes" stuff too!
You don't need any special skills or experience to volunteer for PSALMS - just a willing heart. You will be part of a team with a PSALMS Strategic Minister at the helm. You will also benefit from regular PSALMS volunteer training events to equip you in serving the young people. All PSALMS volunteers are CRB checked and trained in child protection and health and safety.
What's it like being a PSALMS Volunteer?
PSALMS Volunteer Bernard Twiddy, talks about his experience:
"When PSALMS minister Ruth asked for help from Nailsworth Churches to go and play sport at the Multi Use Games Area, I thought I would stick my neck out. I can’t say that I am much use as a basketball player and believe you me these kids run rings round us, but Ruth helps coach us all.
One day when we were playing football, suddenly WHAM my glasses went flying across the court. The poor boy who had kicked the ball was inconsolable. But my glasses were fine, no lasting damage was done and I was touched by his response.
One day one of the year five youngsters was questioning his younger sister about Heaven and Hell. Not getting a satisfactory answer, he turned to Ruth and me to ask us about it. We were able to explain to him that if he believed in The Lord Jesus Christ and what he has done for us all, then he wouldn’t have to worry about such a place as Hell.
Vounteering with PSALMS is an excellent way to get to know some of the youngsters in your area personally and have the privelege of being asked to explain questions they may have about Jesus."
